Pictures, Numbers and Words
Purpose:
- To have children associate number words and
numerals with pictorial representations of quantities.
Materials:
- Worksheet
- Pencils
- Counters such as colored chips or
cubes.
Directions:
- Review the numbers from 1 to 10. For example,
you can review these numbers by:
- Showing children a set of colored cubes and
asking them to identify the number of cubes in the set.
- Showing children a numeral or number word
and asking them to make a set with that number of cubes in
it.
- Asking children to make a set of 9
colored cubes, a set of 4 colored cubes, etc.
- Having children rote count to
10.
- Tell children that they will be doing an
activity that involves the numbers from 1 to10.
- Distribute the worksheet and discuss the
directions for completing it:
- Count the number of objects in each
picture.
- Print the numeral (symbol) for the number
in the box below the picture.
- Print the number word on the lines below
the box for the numeral.
- Have children complete the
worksheet.
