Math Street - Activities

Purpose
The Activities Database is designed to supplement classroom lectures and reinforce the student’s understanding of specific concepts. The Activities Database reflects the dynamics of age appropriate learning abilities and diverse teaching styles. The approach and format differs from grade to grade, as each writer shares her/his own interpretation and creative approach to teaching the math curriculum.
There are four modules per grade, one for each of the four Strands - Numbers, Patterns, Measures and Geometry, and Statistics (Data Management) and Probability.

Structure
The Activities Database covers Grade 1 to 8 and consists of fully customizable activities. This allows the teacher to either administer the activities as written, or modify the material to suit the specific needs of the class or individual student.

Content
The Activities Database is a comprehensive library that consists of teaching strategies, student activities, instructional games, formal and informal lesson plans, and knowledge and comprehension questions/problems. Each module may incorporate hands-on activities, mental math, skill and drill exercises, and problem solving, requiring the use of manipulatives, pencil, paper, and calculator. Preceding each activity is a heading identifying the Outcomes that students will learn.

All Activities are congruent to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards.
